Complete Cannabis Seed Strain Overview

There are hundreds of cannabis seed varieties. There are so many cannabis varieties that no one can establish an exact count, as more are being developed. This is because the varieties are bred with each other. Meanwhile you get every dubious cannabis seed variety available, but they are all based on the same plant, the Cannabis Sativa. Cannabis varieties can vary in effect, price, cultivation, appearance and other factors. Some of the best known cannabis seed strains are definitely Crystal, Chronic, Big Bud, Ice, White Widow, Northern Light and Super Skunk. But there are many more cannabis seed varieties than only these.

Cannabis varieties can be divided into four main groups/species. These are:

  • Cannabis Indica
  • Cannabis Sativa
  • Cannabis Ruderalis

Indica Cannabis

Indica cannabis strains are typically small and dense. Well suited for the so-called "Homegrow", where you grow hemp at home in a growbox. Despite the fact that the plant becomes relatively small (about 1m), Indicas yield relatively many flowers. There are Indica Cannabis varieties that produce up to 600g per m² (about 4-5 plants). Indicas nearly all come from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Tibet, Nepal, etc. so primarily from South Asia. The effect is more physical and makes you deeply relaxed, creating heavy sedation.

Cannabis Sativa

Sativa comes from the equatorial regions. This variety keeps growing during blooming, so Sativas have a tendency to grow very large. In the wild, these can grow up to several meters high. The leaves are wide with many small fingers.

Cannabis Ruderalis

The name comes from "ruderal", a term for a wild growing plant. Ruderalis is indigenous to Russia, Central Europe and Central Asia. They are very tiny, between 30-80 cm high. The plant has very few branches, but wide, bushy and light colored fingers. As it has minimal THC content, it is rarely smoked but its genetics makes it very appealing for breeding.
